Banana Wine Recipe

Yes, surprisingly, you can make a decent wine from bananas. In fact, some may argue that it is one of the most versatile fruits for making wine at home. Some wine makers use it to add body in a weak wine, but the recipe below is for a true, pure banana wine.

Peeled bananas5 lbs
Sugarabout 3 lbs
Citric Acid 1 oz
Water 1 gallon
White Wine Yeast
Yeast Nutrient1 tablespoon


Directions

  1. Mash the peeled bananas, and chop the skins very finely.
  2. Boil the water and add to bananas and skins. Add in the sugar raising the sugar to about brix.
  3. Once cool, add in the yeast and citric acid.
  4. Begin Primary fermentation. After 2-3 days of fermentation, strain off the bananas and skins and continue primary fermentation.
  5. From this point on-follow the instructions outlines in the “winemaking process” page as you if you were making a white wine.

Makes one gallon of wine. Age for at least 1 year.
